Founder / Director - Fred M. Priester

Coach Priester is the winningest coach in school history at two local high schools, McLean High School (130-104 in 10 years), and Oakton High School (266-58 in 12 years).  His teams have won 8 district tournament championships, finished 1st or 2nd in district regular season play 11 times, won 2 Northern Region Tournament Championships, and advanced to the Virginia AAA State Final Four and Championship Game.  He has been named Coach of the Year multiple times by local newspapers, and has had the honor of coaching in the Virginia State All-Star Game on several occasions.  In addition to his high school experience, Coach Priester has coached for the Potomac Valley Vogues AAU Basketball Club since 1986.  His AAU teams have finished in the Top 10 at AAU Nationals on 4 occasions, and have placed in the Sweet Sixteen 10 times.  He has coaches and assisted in the recruiting process of 125 Division I, 7 Division II, and 25 Division III student-athletes over the past 19 years.  As a high school guidance counselor with extensive contacts in the college coaching ranks, Fred is uniquely qualified to assist, in cooperation and conjunction with high school coaches, in academic and athletic planning for high school student-athletes.  He has spoken at local and statewide conferences on the topics of the NCAA Clearinghouse and college recruitment.  Coach Priester has been the director of the All Star Team Camp at Longwood College for over 20 years, as well as directing high school and youth camps, and clinics for over 22 years.  He has been fortunate to have worked as an instructor and counselor at camps and clinics throughout the United States.  Coach Priester has spent 25 years coaching, teaching, and guiding young student-athletes in the Northern Virginia area.

 

Instructional Coaching Staff

Chris Kestyn -  Coach Kestyn has been working with Coach Priester since 1993, after working for Coach Kenny Farmer at West Potomac High School.  During his years at Oakton High School, Coach K has specialized in post player development, earning a reputation for turning out physical and fundamentally sound players, six of whom have gone on to play Division I college basketball.  Coach K is also a prominent American Legion baseball coach in Northern Virginia.

Derek Fisher - Coach Fisher, a former assistant coach at Fairfax High School and Oakton High School, has distinguished himself as the head girls basketball coach at Lake Braddock Secondary School, rebuilding the program during his 5 years, and leading his Bruins to the 2003 Northern Region Tournament Championship.  Coach Fisher has coached AAU basketball for several years with the Potomac Valley Vogues, and many of his high school and AAU players have gone on to play in college.  He is known for his energetic coaching style and his emphasis on fundamental instruction.

Les Hughes - Coach Hughes has worked with Coach Priester at Oakton High School since 1999, after serving stints as an assistant coach at Fairfax High School and Annandale High School.  He is also a well known AAU coach, having coached with the Potomac Valley Vogues since 1994.  This former shooting guard for the 1987 National Championship Flint Hill Prep basketball team possesses a wealth of teaching skills and has been responsible for the development of many of young players on his AAU and high school teams.

Noel Klippenstein - Coach Klippenstein is a former assistant coach at Oakton High School, as well as Robinson Secondary School and South Lakes High School.  She is currently the head girls basketball coach at Marshall High School, and has re-energized the program, helping turn the Statesmen in regional contenders.  She has years of experience coaching at camps and clinics, emphasizing fundamental skills.  She used to coach varsity volleyball at South Lakes, and has coached AAU basketball with the Potomac Valley Vogues for several years.

Gus Taylor - Coach Taylor has worked at several local high schools, including Annandale High School, McLean High School, Oakton High School, and Westfield High School, before being hired as the head girls basketball coach at Centreville High School.  His wildcats have lots of young talent, and are expected to become a factor in the northern region in the near future.  Coach Taylor stresses fundamental skills, and has been involved in the development of many outstanding high school players, some of which have earned Division I basketball scholarships.  He also has coached several years for the Potomac Valley Vogues AAU Basketball Club.

Kathleen Rose - Coach Rose is a varsity assistant coach at Oakton High School. She also assists with the junior varsity, and scouts for the cougars. She's previously coached at Fairfax HS and Jefferson HSST, and has experience coaching with local aau clubs.

Keith Hirsch - Coach Hirsch is a varsity assistant coach at Lake Braddock Secondary School, and has been a local AAU coach for several years.  He was an intregal part of Lake Braddock's magical run to the 2003 Northern Region Tournament Championship.  He works many local camps and clinics, and teaches 5th/6th grade at Freedom Hill Elementary School.

Josh Priester - Josh Priester is one of The Basketball Place instructional assistants. Josh has years of experience in strength and agility training, having played baseball at Oakton High School, and Lynchburg College. He has assisted his father for many years at The Basketball Place and also at various camps such as the Oakton Summer Camps, and the All Star Team Camp at Longwood.
